CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which you may want to ask questions. A skilled nursing facility is rated on its performance in three areas: Health Inspections rating (based on outcomes from State health inspection), Staffing Rating (based on CNA and RN/LPN staffing levels), and Quality Measures rating (based on actual resident health outcomes).
